Meazzis - who used them in the early 60s?

I regularly saw instrumental bands in the early 60s, but do not recall ever seeing a Meazzi echo :o Plenty of Copycats, Vox, Binson and Echolette, but never a Meazzi. I never saw the Shadows so cannot comment on what Hank used. Strange is it not as now they are the best echo since sliced bread!!!!!

Truthfully, I can't remember seeing any local bands using a Meazzi back in the 60's.

Most of the ones I knew were using Copicats, although I had a fairly basic Selmer which I prefered (because it was cheaper).

We did use a Copicat for vocals through our PA, but I still prefered to use the Selmer.

Did Hank actually use a Meazzi or was it always branded as a Vox?

Pat.

I'm beginning to wonder that myself!!

I always remember one of my group's early gigs in a Church Hall in Barnet, after which a hideous little scroat said that "the other group were much better because they had an echo chamber"!!! I think it was because we all went to Queen Elizabeth's Boys' Grammar School and the other group didn't!

I can remember going regularly to the 'Majestic' in Union Street Plymouth each thursday evening when there would be a group playing.

At those sessions many famous groups appeared and I can remember seeing a Meazzi Factotum used on at least two occasions - I can't be sure which groups used them but it also reminds me of once seeing a lead guitarist using a Leak preamp and a Quad power amp for his guitar!

The Astronauts, who played around the North East during the early Sixties, used a Meazzi PA System. (17 watts I think it was).

I hope he didn't use Quad electrostatic speakers as well !
If he tried, they certainly didn't last very long !

BTW, in the eraly sixties, Leak preamp and amp feeding a large speaker enclosure were used in Abbey Road for the bass guitar. Jet used this for recording.

That's correct - 17 watts for each of the two built-in amps.

Yes, I remember seeing the more established acts using Meazzis, but what I meant was that I didn't remember any local bands using them.

Blimey, 17 whole watts per channel .........How did we manage without megawatt PA systems, I wonder. My lot had 50 watts of Selmer valve power and we were LOUD! I've got a deaf right ear to prove it.
