On the Radio Scotland request show "Get it on" every weekday evening there is a theme and last nights was instrumentals. I e-mailed the show earlier in the day and requested Flingel Bunt asking if picked that they play the original single version. In addition because I knew that more than likely that there would be many requests for something by the Shads (which there were) I also requested that Apache and Wonderful Land should not be played simply because that seems to be all that radio show types will pick. (The last time about 18 months ago when it was instrumentals Wonderful Land was played). Luckily they listened and near the end of the show they played F. B.

I know that it is all very subjective, but listening to the original single played at high volume on national radio ,I thought that all other recorded versions do not match the original, a great bluesy number and kept going with that driving beat after Brian Bennett's drum breaks instead of it being slowed down as has been the case for ages. Is it because it is played with Burns instead of Fenders? is it because John Rostill plays in a truly masterful way laying down a great beat with Brian Bennett?

Who knows but it sure sounded great not being "dated" at all.

I remember reading somewhere that Brian was impressed with John's bass playing from the start and said that, from a drummer's perspective, it had that something special.
