Singin The Blues - only in at No.40 in the singles chart.
Reunited - much better - straight in at No.6 in the album charts.

Surely a good proportion of the 60,000+ audience at the O2 will buy a copy this week?

Hi Rob
Maybe more of a reflection that the fan base these days is more likely to buy the album than just the single?
Straight in at number six sounds pretty good to me and as Jim says maybe the concerts will build momentum.

I think this is a really great result - the bbc story said that this was one of the busiest weeks for cd releases - and the 'reunited album' is behind the likes of madonna, muse, mika, pearl jam - very strong competition.
re the single - I think the thing that I've realised over the last couple of weeks is that it's the downloads that count...and cliff fans don't really do downloads...physical sales don't seem to factor that much anymore - and actually not that many places seem to stock them. the interesting thing about the singles chart is that a lot of the new entries are 'album tracks' which is what happens when you can download individual tracks off albums...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8277463.stmas far as the song 'singing the blues' goes though - it has gone down really well at the shows I've been at - so I think that it's a HIT regardless of its chart placing.

It's certainly been a bigger hit for the Shadows than either of their last 'hit' singles - Equinoxe Part 5 and The Third Man. Although significantly less successful than either of Cliff's last hits.
As for the album, a very good result, coming in at #6, and I really, really, really hope that it'll go higher. There must be 200,000 people going to see them in the UK over the course of the tour. If only half of them buy the album then it should easily get to number 1. It's thirty years since the Shadows last topped the album charts, so what a great way to mark the anniversary. As for Cliff, I have a feeling his last number 1 album was back in the mid 90s, so he's about due for another one too!!! Personally I love the album, it's great to hear the Shadows actually sounding like the Shadows again (after a decade of progressively diluting their sound) and I think everyone concerned should be given a hearty slap on the back.
Cliff and the Shads for #1? I hope so.

Yes,
Let's hope that sales of the album will increase as the tour progresses. Have to agree that "Singin' The Blues" is going down well with the audiences - but the fact that it's only at #40 suggests that it's not going to top the singles chart by a long chalk! I did hear though that "Singing The Blues" WAS #1 in the vinyl singles chart!

Cliff fans don't really do downloads...physical sales don't seem to be a factor that much anymore....and you cannot buy the top 40 in the shops for CD single anymore to.....so how can you ever compaire the singles chat now, with the last 50 years...
