JET AT AMERSHAM BENEFIT SHOW
Hi Everyone,
Last night Jet was in attendance at a very special (but tinged with sadness) event at Amersham R'n'R Club. The club (under the auspices of Ralph Gowling, Jim Grant & many others) plus many well - known artistes (The Flames, Russ Sainty, Chas McDevitt, Clem Cattini, Mike Berry & John Leyton + compere 'Diddy' David Hamilton) all gave their services free to raise money for Craig Douglas. Although still in fine voice (as evidenced in an emotional finale) - Craig has been struck down by a rare medical condition which has left him virtually wheelchair - bound. During the course of the evening many acknowledgements were made to both Cliff & the Shads. Instrumentally we only had "Ghost Riders In The Sky" & "Telstar" (with Clem on drums). Jet was due to play a set....but he has been unwell with a viral infection. However he wanted to be there to support Craig and so he did come along. To his great credit (as well as spending time backstage with Craig Douglas) he spent a lot of time chatting to fans and signing autographs / memorabilia etc., etc. Just thought that you'd like to know. At least £4,500 was raised on the night. Thanks to the Amersham organisation, Dell Richardson (who promoted the night on Radio Caroline), the Joe Meek Society (who promoted the event via their website and publications) and Steve Etherington (who worked tirelessly on this event). Sky TV were there for 8 hours - so some kind of programme will come out of it. Plus - Rapier John Tuck was in attendance and Rapier Nathan Hulse was the official photographer.
