South West Shadows Club (Exeter, Devon) Christmas Party
Our Christmas Party was a fabulous evening of good food, fun and excellent entertainment, sincere thanks goes to our venue at the Exeter Court Hotel and their staff for making this a very special and memorable evening. Of course it wouldn't have been a such a success without all those who came along to be part of the great atmosphere and make it one our best attended events, we very much look forward to seeing those who have decided to join us in the New Year for the early January meeting.

On behalf of the "Team" I would like to thank everyone for all their kind comments, they are very much appreciated, the only concern now is how to top it next year! Don't worry, I'm sure we'll think of something!
What a difference a year makes, changing to a formal membership has created a real sense of belonging, enabling us to finance equipment, insurance and a venue that offers great facilities. New comers are immediately made to feel welcome and are invited to take part in the activities without being pushed to go beyond their personal comfort zones. Many are surprised to find how quickly the great atmosphere and common interest proves to be just the right motivation to expand their knowledge and playing skills, taking the enjoyment of their music to new highs.
We are fortunate in having pro, ex-pro and semi-pro performers who enjoy coming along to blend in seamlessly with other players, adding much to our meetings. The focus has been firmly aimed at improving the club experience and providing good standards across the board, meetings have become real social occasions where people can gain confidence in a friendly atmosphere and have the opportunity to interact with fellow enthusiasts.
Much of the derived "high" is in sharing the musical experience and to feel confident in being able to give performances that others will enjoy. Meetings should be entertaining, we endeavour to provide a good balance throughout, whilst maintaining the inertia by adding that occasional something different. Dealing with all the variables of running a Shadows Club can be challenging to say the least, but achieving an environment where people take an active and constructive interest in what others are doing is certainly the way forward. We promote expectations of appropriate consideration and behaviour towards guests and members, which is key to overall member satisfaction, with far more people prepared to take an active role in the clubs success and in helping others.
Wishing everyone a happy New Year on behalf of South West Shadows Club.
Gary
