The performance in question was a late 1965 SNATLP appearance by Cliff Richard And The Shadows, with The Shadows first playing (and premiering) The Warlord and then backing Cliff Richard in a medley of hits: The Young Ones / Lucky Lips / Living Doll / Bachelor Boy as well as another song.
The Lucky Lips part of the medley was released on the VHS video "The Hit List", some years ago. It is short (much shorter than the single) precisely because it was part of a medley and not a free-standing performance.
John Rostill had been with Cliff and The Shadows for two years by then. He'd made two films with them and had toured the world, as well as recording (and writing) dozens of tracks. I'm sure he was not uncomfortable with performance. Stage placement will have been a matter for the group and the programme's director.
