Just bought this CD (it had all my favourites on one CD). Its excellent quality but I noticed that Track15 is spelt 'The rise and fall of FINGLE Bunt'' Is every copy spelt like that?

In fact this Shads' title is probably misspelt more than any other. It's normally the last two letters that get transposed...

Does this one have the non orchestral version of Wonderful Land and the false start to Theme for Young Lovers ?

Full strings on WL and TFYL first note is high D. Tell me more about the different versions?

If its the 1997 album with 4 half body shots (including John Rostill) on the front cover, then the TFYL is the LATER version with the Lead in the RIGHT hand channel, not left as orignally recorded. Goodness knows why they chose to change it over.
I have always thought that the muted parts were recorded separately from the main theme. They are well loud in the mix witha different "tone" to them. Also, if you listen around 1.50 - 1.57 (ish) you can hear either CHORUSing at work or Studio double tracking of the same Lead line - it has an odd Bazooki-ish quality to it. For such a smooth tune I thought that the quite in-your-face treble tone of the guitar (Strat / Burns ??) to be too much. Not criticisms - just observations on one of my favourite Shads tunes.
Oh yes - on the 1997 sleeve, FLINGEL is spelled FLINGLE.

thats the one Ian! I'm glad you posted this info. When i listened to the CD for the first time i thought the sounds were a bit different to how i remembered them, I just thought it was my ears getting a bit old!! Nice to say there was a reason for the difference!!?

Wonderful Land without strings is on The Shadows at Abbey Road (any others?) and is a different recording from the single version.

Tracks 3 & 19 are mono; this CD made available every last track that EMI were at the time prepared to issuse or re-issue on CD. Seven tracks (including the undubbed stereo version the Wonderful Land take released as a single) were available only on this CD on release. On the other hand, seven were included from the Cliff/Shadows LP "Established 1958", which is now easily available on CD, but had then been deleted for a year or two.

PS: Thetwo tracks marked as mono had, up until then, never been released in stereo. But they are both now available in stereo.

This CD only have 20 tracks which is not enough for my personal Shadows' favorites. I have made my own favorites' compilation double CD. I had great difficulties to limit the number to 50 tracks !...
