At about 09:25 this morning Brian Matthew played an outtake of A Girl Like You on Sounds of the Sixties. Some studio chat between Norrie and Bruce at the start followed by a version I haven't heard before. It's not on the Rock 'n' Roll Years box set so does anyone know which cd it comes from?

Thanks for the information, Keith.
I understand that the track in question can be heard at
http://www.fileswap.com/dl/U5dwV4k/A_Girl_Like_You_(CR&S)_out-take_(SOTS_12-02-11).mp3.html..at least, for a while.
I don't think that this out-take has been released on a CD - at least, not on any I'm familiar with.

The playlist info states that the track was played from "20 Original Greats Cliff And The Shadows Emi" - not if my copy is anything to go by it wasn't! The BBC must have a commercial recording of this surely?

This was on the same show about a year ago. It's on Spotify on the ...And They Said It Wouldn't Last Album
Martin.

After Martin pointed me in the right direction I discovered many more alternate takes in this boxed set that don't seem to be available elsewhere. Apart from A Girl Like You there's Dynamite, Fall In Love With You (with Hank's guitar completely dry - almost a rehearsal), I Love You, Nine Times Out Of Ten, Now's The Time To Fall In Love, Never Mind, Poor Boy and On The Beach as well as several 'B' sides and album tracks I hadn't got. Play.com have the whole album available for download at about £29 or you can get individual tracks for .89p and make your own disc which is what I've done.
As Martin said you can listen to it on Spotify and research the tracks you want but I don't recommend buying from them as their track price is £1.29.

Excellent Keith. Yes, I realised there were other takes on that album. In fact Brian Matthew played about four of the tracks on that edition of Sounds of The Sixties, which was on at least a year ago - probably longer.
Martin.

When I heard it on Saturday I thought to myself 'I can sample that intro for future use.' Anyhow it's now sampled and tucked away for a rainy day.
