Postby David Martin » 02 Oct 2009, 13:43

In another thread two members mention stuff they have always wanted to hear the Shads play live...

With their permission I'll copy their posts over here, but my want list starts with...

On a Night Like This... been trying to get Bruce to sing this at ShadowMania for years but no luck so far!!

A bit late now me thinks, maybe the thread should have been titled "Shads Stuff You Would Really Have Liked To Have Heard Live..." ;)

Cricket Bat Boogie would have been one on my list as a slight change to Shadoogie. :)

1861 would be on my list - such a great, lively number.

There are so many to choose from! Narrowing my wish list down... Return To The Alamo for the Shads, Janine and Captain Zlogg for Hank solo.

Unfortunately I can see this list getting longer and longer as everyone chips in something or other but I agree with you David, I loved ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS but it is one of their lesser known tracks.

I remember at one of the Shads concerts in the late 70s / early 80s Hank or Bruce asked the audience if anyone had any requests, obviously anticipating everyone calling out for Apache. They were rather taken back when someone called out for BERMUDA TRIANGLE and they had to admit they couldn't remember it or how to play it!! ;)

That reminds of the Toronto Shadowmania in 2003 when Bruce came into the hall and heard one of the bands rehearsing National Provincial Samba. Bruce commented (genuinely) that it was a good number and what was it called to which the band replied with the title and the fact that Bruce had co-written the song!

A similar example - A few years ago, the Rapiers were preparing to do "That's The Way It Goes" at Shadowmania. They were appearing at the Beck Theatre, Hayes and Bruce turned up to watch them. After the show - Neil and Colin were asking Bruce about "T.T.W.I.Goes" - he looked completley bemused. After some good natured banter we told him ,between us, the year it was released and the LP - plus the fact that he and Hank had written it. Plus that it had been recorded by Frank Ifield and the Swinginging Blue Jeans too. We sang it acapella for him(3 - part harmony) - Bruce stil looked bemused and then said (completely deadpan) - "Hmmm - so...it was a vocal then was it?"

Bruce has since sung That's the Way it Goes at Shadowmania so your conversation must have rung some bells.

Goodnight Dick is one I'd love to hear live too. Also Driftin', A Better Man Than I and Shoba.
