Sounds of the sixties - Jet Harris

I listened to the Show last Saturday on the off chance that Jet's passing would be mentioned, however it occurred to me that the show is pre-recorded and most likely early in the week. At the end as usual Foot Tapper was played but this time instead of only part of it the complete single was played in full which I am sure was a tribute to him in the short time available to the producer.

Does anyone know if the Show are planning a feature on him this Saturday?

Yes I listened to it as well, half expecting a comment.
I think the reason that the whole of Foot Tapper was played had more to do with the fact that Graham Norton overslept than anything else !

I believe that it was only last Saturday that SOTS had a tribute to John Barry and he passed away on 30th January. SOTS has to be pre-recorded, but how long ago is anyones guess. Still it's a great show and Brian Matthew is a legend.
Can I ask whether anyone saw anything about Jet on TV news over the weekend ? I looked everywhere but there was no sight or sound anywhere.

I did not hear anything regarding Jet on the news, it was on Teletext I think it was either Saturday or Sunday.

I didn't see anything on TV or even hear anything on the radio either!! I have relatives who live in Gloucestershire and there was some mention of Jet on Radio Gloucester apparently - as he lived in & around the area between c. 1975 - c.2000. I have contacted S.O.T.S. (but only in the same way that anyone can via their website) and suggested that they could pay tribute to Jet in their '3 In A Row' slot. My suggestions were "Apache" (Shads), "M W T G Arm" (Jet), "Diamonds" (Jet & Tony). Whether they'll do anything or not (but one would hope that they would) is anyone's guess.

There was a small obit on Friday's 5 o'clock news on Radio2 ~ that's when I heard for the first time. There have also been mentions subsequently on Radio2, notably on Ken Bruce's show on Monday.

As previously discussed, SOTS is recorded in advance and was probably 'in the can' before Jet's death was known.

Most newspapers did a decent write~up, so, despite being out of the major lime~light for some time, he was remembered and spoken of in glowing terms.

I am certain the SCSC will be paying tribute this evening at The Heroes.

Is Brian Matthew's show in fact transmitted live?

There's no reason why it needs to be.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brian Matthew just records all his bits at home and they're then edited in with the music at the studio. As quoted above, there was a tribute to John Barry on Saturday, several weeks after his death.

This show has been recorded for years. There was one occasion when the second hour was a repeat of the first! Occasionally they have played an obviously different record to the one Brian introduces and he doesn't comment afterwards!! Incidentally, does anyone remember when Jet was the guest presenter - this would have been around 1987. I've got it on a cassette somewhere, along with episodes when Hank Marvin and Jerry Lordan presented!
