Man, I remember that the first time around! 1976, is that right? I'm in the U.S. so won't catch TOTP but I appreciate the note.

..and the track you mentioned. No doubt my good mate Cockroach will remind me that they are South Australian! And for those who seem to have forgotten, Alan did play bass for The Shadows for a while......

Yes Bill! - I first saw Alan Tarney (and his brother Frank on Strat rhythm) in late 1964 here in SA with the legendary Johnny Broome and the Handells(!) with the incredible Kevin Peek on Gretsch playing lead...Trevor was the drummer with Alan and Peeky later on in the James Taylor Move. My band supported them at a large gig in 1967 and Trevor borrowed our drummer's snare drum..

'Roach,
South Australia has definately been the breeding ground for many fine musicians over the years, more often creative leaders than followers too in comparison with the other states. Shame that the Tarney Spencer Group didn't receive the following I believe it deserved in its home country - but then again neither did John Farrar and many others who had to go 'overseas' to get recognition. The again, some had success at home and abroad, or 'almost' made it abroad like this group for instance (I must add RIP for Harvey James, the lead guitarist in this clip who recently passed away):
