Question for the experts.

Postby Alan Prudhoe » 05 Oct 2009, 12:21

A friend of mine has posed the following question which I cannot answer as it does not come withing my area of expertise (i.e. Three chord bashes  )

When I listen to The Shads playing Nivram either live or original record Bruce plays G / / /| C / / / [a Cmajor chord] and in the solo they play a Cm6 chord but the UB Hank track has the second line playing a minor chord all the way through.

Why is the track different to the original?

But I have told him I know a man (or men) who will know the answer.
Any offers?

Because they got it wrong?

Seriously though, Bruce makes subtle changes to chords ikn all sorts of tunes over time...

But I suspect the answer (and this pushes my theoretical musical knowledge over the edge) is that there is virtually no difference between certain 6th chords and their relative minor... example G6... and Em...

Best I can do!

Hi i havnt seen Bruce Play this so i cant comment on The c major chord?
but i can say that the Bass line suggests it Cm6 because of the minor 3rd (Eb)used in the run
the lead part also plays Eb as opposed to E so there again suggesting it is Minor
All the scores and sheet music books Show the chord as Cm6 ?
the notes of the main MELODY G B C Eb D C G B
CHORDS G / // Cm6 / D7 / G///
BASS GBEDB C Eb D C GDBGB
Hope This Helps?
