Thanks

I saw Hank use a sunburst Strat that he had as a backup during the 80s at the Cornwall Coliseum (can't remember the year) when he broke a string.
Bruce had one as a backup as well and Alan Jones had a sunburst Precision Bass as a backup.

The matching sunbursts would be the Silver Anniversary tour in 1983. Hank's sunburst Strat was bought from Tony Hicks.

Are you sure it's the same guitar? The one on that site has a three-colour sunburst finish.

It does look like a 3-tone sunburst, but according to A.R. Duchossoir and others, the 3-tone finish was not introduced until early or mid-1958.
Is this definitely a 1957 guitar?

Yes; it's fully documented and it's a two-colour sunburst, I know of course, this is our site ;)
Serial # 22102 =>1957

I still don't understand. That guitar...

...has a three colour sunburst. There's a definite area of red within the black shading.

That dosn't mean it's not Hank's old guitar, of course, but my understanding was that three-colour sunburst is vanishingly rare on maple-neck 1950s guitars.
