Hello Paul,
Welcome to the ShadowMusic website!

Unfortunately, there aren't any live DVD's of The Shadows themselves from the early years. They appeared in five of Cliff's films of course: "Expresso Bongo", "The Young Ones", "Summer Holiday", "Wonderful Life" and "Finders Keepers" and their own 30-minute film "Rhythm & Greens". The first four are all available on DVD. "Finders Keepers" and "Rhythm & Greens" have only been available on VHS video. The Shadows have released three DVD's so far:
- "The Shadows Live": a 7-track DVD "EP" of recordings from July 1984 (previously on VHS video);
- "At Their Very Best": a 15-track DVD of the concert from 31st of May 1989 (previously on VHS video), re-issued as "Live In Liverpool";
- "The Final Tour": a 42-track DVD, VHS video and double CD of the concert from 5th of June 2004, the DVD and maybe also the VHS video featuring a 45-minute interview with Hank, Bruce and Brian.

There is one VHS video, which may be of interest, which is the Cliff Richard VHS video "The Hist List" from 1994. This one features tracks from TV shows and films from 1959 to 1990. Most clips from 1959 to 1965 feature The Shadows. I think the video has long since been deleted, but maybe it's available via eBay.

That's true, but the quality is not always very good, because of the low resolution.

Poor quality has as much to do with how old the clips are as the low res of Youtube. ( Which is getting much better )

There are a few "bootleg" DVDs around which generally are compilations of TV shows clips from the 405 lines B&W TV era. Not really HD !
You can also find them on Youtube or elsewhere, an edit your own DVD...

I find You Tube acceptable, given that we are talking about a good few years ago, I wouldn't expect any better. Many of these are from old recorders ( even magnetic tape) which had trouble keeping the picture in focus. Enjoy the music and images as they are, is my advice. John
