Yes.....just in case you've missed David's 'Headline' at the top...Shadowmania 2011 is most definitely ON! Lakeside, Frimley, September 17th. Bruce (God bless him) took us all by surprise. Just stating the obvious (in case you really may not have noticed it anywhere else) - but booking opened yesterday (April 13th) and tickets are selling fast. Normally by now these boards are filled with messages from happy people chatting about the fact that they'll be there & they've booked their tkts etc., etc.I went there in person yesterday morning (there by 9.30am) to book a table for "Pipeline" stalwarts. Even by then over 20 tables had already gone and the 'phones were going crazy. Will this be the last one ever? Who knows. Anyway - my advice (& I'm not on commission!!!!) would be - if you're wondering about getting tickets or not.....don't leave it too long.

Bests.....Rob :D

Bruce Welch's Shadows (Cliff Hall, Phil Kelly, Alan Jones & Bob Watkins)

I thought last year's Shadowmania might have been the last. There was no "shall we do it again" at the end.
And then Bruce's health problems this year followed by Jet's death just seemed to confirm that it was all over.
So it was a pleasant surprise (to say the least) to hear that Shadowmania was on this year. Let's hope Brian
will be part of Warren's 'friends' and wouldn't it be great to see John Farrar or even Hank make an appearance
some time before Shadowmania finishes for good.
We might as well dream here as in bed!

After the comment that Bruce made to a reporter after Jet's funeral (posted by Greg Ogarrio on this thread), it was obvious that Bruce didn't intend for last year to be the last:

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Bruce said: “He was a superstar bass player and a founder member of The Shadows. I have so many happy memories of working with him.”

He said that the next Shadowmania – an annual convention for Shadows fans – would be a special tribute to Jet.

But that it is this year is a pleasant surprise, all things considered.

Richard.

That was a great picture of Jet published in that Hampshire newspaper (and on their site). I would imagine it would be from around 1967, roughly when Jet was approached to play bass in Jeff Beck's proposed new group after his leaving the Yardbirds. Jet would certainly have looked the part. What a great pity it never worked out.

I've adjusted the aspect ratio a little (the picture was rendered just a little too narrow).

Seem to remember reading somewhere that HBM was approached by 'The Faces'. Ant truth in that?

I think after the Shads split in 68/early 69, Hank was approached to join The Move, but Roy Wood admitted later it was just a publicity stunt and they didn't seriously expect him to say 'Yes'1

Thanks George it was The Move. Read it in the Mike Reid book on The Shadows.

I must admit I thought it would probably be next year especially after
Bruce's recent health problems.

Great stuff though, all I have to do now is get Mom transported back from Dawlish
on the Saturday so I can go!

Hi Amanda,
