Britain's Got Talent Controversy.......Yes.....for those Shads devotees who recall landlord Herbie Armstrong's epic impromptu performances at the Fountain Inn in Rowlands Castle (maybe he still performs there....I don't know....we'd have to ask Shadatak!!!) when the SCSC used to meet there......well....... read on!

"A 66-year-old who auditioned for 'Britain's Got Talent' angered some fans after it emerged that he had previously appeared on 'Top of the Pops' and played on some Van Morrison records. A viewer commented on a forum: "This show should be for beginners setting out on their careers. Not for successful musicians who've had their chance." But rocker Herbie Armstrong, who impressed the judges and audience alike on ‘BGT’, has since defended himself. He told the Irish Independent: "I have never been famous in my own right. The same is true for when I appeared on 'Top of the Pops' as a member of other bands."

I knew Herbie when he used to be landlord of The Boardwalk (formerly The Black Swan) in the centre of Sheffield a decade ago, he often used to get up and do a few numbers with us. Great to see him do well on BGT, good luck to him.

If my memmory is correct, he did say he had allways been a session player, and wanted to be recognised as solo artist and started to play one of his own songs
he had written, and they asked him to play a tune that people would know, which I thought was a bit rude of the judge,s.
I hope he wins.

I agree it was rude to do that. This panel are, to judging musical talent - what Cyril Smith was to hang gliding . . . . . . they wouldn't know a b flat from a block of flats.

Hi Dave
The panel as you say don't know a thing about music,as for the hoff, I much prefer Hofmeister.
