PC advice wanted

Hi each, I have got myself an ATEN KVM switch which has a firmware upgrade facility (updating the unit's system) however to connect to my PC and d/load the update patch from Aten's website I need a PC with a nine pin serial port. As most modern PC's now have all USB ports I've resorted to buying a usb/9 pin serial adapter which has a driver disk with it.

I'm a bit wary that by instaling this driver I may knock out my usb ports. Anyone got any advice please?

Bri

Hi Bri,

It won't knock out your USB ports.

Power up, and then plug it in. Windows will then tell you it's found new hardware, and also what it is. Chances are that Windows will already have a driver for it, and after a couple of minutes, you'll see another message saying that your new hardware is ready for use.

If, by any chance, Windows doesn't have a driver for it, it will prompt you to insert the driver disk. You may have to tell it the drive letter and path to the folder where the driver is, but it should give you the option to browse for it. Once you've selected the driver, that should be it. Follow any prompts you see.

Cheers,

Simon

Thanks Simon. There's no such thing as a stupid question if you don't know or are unsure of stuff.

Thanks for your help
