"Funny Old World" - John Rostill biography

Hi Everyone,
It's nearly 25 years ago since my biography of John Rostill was nearing completion. The first print run sold out in 1988. The second edition was published 22 years ago - but took much longer to sell out (but....it has been out - of - print for nearly a decade or so now). In that time technology has moved on considerably and new information has come to light. Also....the Internet as such did not exist in those days. I still get enquiries about the book from time to time. All those years ago it was set up on 'Printers Plates'. Well....both the printer (bankruptcy - nothing to do with "F.O.World" I might add!!) and the plates (unknown) are long, long gone. But.....I still have the text and all of the original photographs (plus many, many more).

So.....at this stage in my life....I have both the time and the opportunity to consider a completely revised, improved and updated version. My thoughts / hopes would be to include: New information / Completely revised & updated discogrpahy / Correcting previous errors & omissions / superior photographic reproduction / possible introduction of colour photography / many more rare & previously unseen photographs / facsimilie reproductions of original letters / documents / cuttings etc., etc. (Again, back in 1988 there wasn't really the opportunity to scan things - another big change).

If I do decide to go ahead - my aim would be to have it ready by the time of Shadowmania. Naturally, I will - of course - have to expend a not inconsiderable (well - it would be for me!!) amount of money to finance the project. So....I just thought I would 'sound out' the Shadow Music site in order to try and assess what the potential response might be. Viz: How many of you might be interested in buying a copy!!!!!!

Best wishes,

Rob :D

Hi Rob
Count me in for the new one. I realy enjoyed the original which I got from Leo's Den a quite few years ago. It came with several loose pages showing letters to his Mum, his Dad, letters from his Mum Elsie to her friend Hilda telling her John was getting £13 per week pocket monies and Cigs are 1/2d for 20.
Looking forward to it.
Regards Geoff.
