Was at a Glasgow Jazz Festival concert last Friday with John Etheridge's Sweet Chorus - a tribute to Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Thoroughly enjoyable, and quite surprising to hear JE talk about his school days and play the intro to 'Wonderful land' as an example of what he listened to in those days. He then went on to name-check Bruce as an example of a guitarist who only plays rhythm.
Then on Saturday evening, my first experience of the Johnny Seven, Glasgow's own anarchic pop instrumentalists, who played a set entirely as a tribute to the late John Barry. Daft wigs/hats, false moustaches and silly names but fab music, totally true to the spirit of JB. Not all Bond themes either -how often do you hear stuff like The Persuaders, Human Jungle or the Ipcress File played 'live'...
