Board Header - No picture of John Farrar?

This is NOT a criticism of the design, and it is not meant to diminish the value of any of the Shads pictured in any way - They all belong there. The simple fact is at least one of the Shadows is missing...

John Farrar was a member of the Shadows. He made a fantastic contribution to the band. He was in the Shadows longer than Brian Locking. He worked in bands with Hank and Bruce longer than Jet Harris. He co-wrote as many Shads songs as Tony Meehan. He appeared on the cover of 3 Shads albums. He appeared in the Eurovision song contest with them.

I don't know if this is a simple oversight or a disgraceful re-writing of history, but it is wrong. John Farrar is a great guy and a very talented musician and he deserves better from the members and management of this board.

As I recall they didn't call themselves The Shadows, but Marvin, Welch and Farrar. At least when I saw them in Copenhagen many years ago.

"Rocking with Curly Leads" LP was by 'The Shadows' and included John Farrar - so by that definition I would say he qualifies as ' A Shadow '. I think it would have been more fitting to see his picture included than the one off the latest CD. Who's that guy in red anyway - is he a Shadow ? ;) :D . I was disappointed with the image of Tony - not the best I've seen.

it all depends how far you go. Technically cliff hall, mark griffiths and warren bennett are all shadows

I agree, but the three you mention are usually introduced on stage as ' the hired help ', and ancilliary extras on recordings. Farrar was specifically included amd photographed as one of The Shadows on the 'Rockin' With Curly Leads' and 'Specs Appeal' LP's along with the Eurovision appearance.

I have to agree about the omission of John Farrar - he should be there.

Hi guys. I'm just the designer. This was just my concept of the early Shadows and the majority voted for it . . . I meant no disrespect to John Farrar or any of the others whose photos have not been included ... My dilemma also was who to include among a list of many:

Mark Griffiths – bass (1989–1990, 2004–present)
Warren Bennett – keyboards (2004–present)
John Fiddy – keyboards (1973–1974)
John Farrar – bass (1973–1975)
Dave Richmond – bass (1973–1975)
Alan Tarney – bass (1973–1977)
Mo Foster – bass (1974)
Francis Monkman – keyboards (1977)
Alan Jones – bass (1977–1989)
George Ford – bass (1978–1980)
Cliff Hall – keyboards (1979–1990)

(above information taken from Wikipedia)

+ Alan Hawkshaw

But having said that, the design allows me to add a photo of John Farrar to the header if the majority agrees. I can just as easily change the photo of Tony Meehan or any other photo that members may find objectionable of "disappointing."

So, just make the decision and I'll maker the changes
. . .
:)

It's really hard to please everyone! ;)

Cheers,
Bojan

Admin Comment:

The board header was clearly displayed for all to see for 2 weeks and everyone had a chance to vote. The voting progress could easily be viewed throughout the voting period and there were various ways people could raise objections to it . The current header was the winner by a strong majority.

Any comment or criticism of the winning entry now that it is live is, therefore, invalid.
