THREE OF OUR SHADOWS ARE MISSING – LOCAL HEROES

Kakadu Sunrise, Boot Hill, The Crying Game, I’ll Be There For You, A Sigh, Peaches & Diesel, Morning Star, Three of Our Shadows Are Missing, Not Now Hank, Gunnin’ West, Santa Anna, Temptation, Dangerman Theme, That’s All Folks.

Another superb effort from Barry Gibson’s Local Heroes. Barry is joined by Clem Cattini, Licorice Locking, Mo Foster, Dzal Martin, ‘Mystery Guest’ and, of course, by Jet himself. This will be available for purchase at Shadowmania. It’s absolutely brilliant. Put together with real skill, dedication and love. Stunning sound and the outstanding quality doesn’t dip throughout the 14 track selection. Sadly, Jet’s last ever recordings – but what a way to end his recording career. All of the tracks (IMHO) are fantastic – but I’m just going to concentrate on the four featuring Jet. “Boot Hill” is a ‘mean, moody’ and magnificent twanger in the manner of the old ‘Western style’ tracks that the Shads used to record fifty years ago! “The Crying Game”….a simply superb ‘swirling’ arrangement with Barry, Licorice and Jet all trading licks in fine style. In his own notes Barry recalls that Jet was thwacking his bass strings so hard that the studio monitors were distorting! “Danger Man” is also really great – with Jet’s thundering 6 – string underpinning a dramatic instrumental arrangement. The final item was really just a throwaway studio jam with Jet reminiscing about the old ‘Looney Tunes’ cartoons that he’d enjoyed as a child. Fittingly, Barry worked up what they’d done messing around with “The Merry - Go - Round Broke Down” (the ‘Looney Tunes’ theme music) and turned it into a miniature one minute gem. It is fitting, because Jet always ended his act with a variation on a little catchphrase picked from comic Jimmy Wheeler – “Aye, aye – that’s your lot!” Jet would sometimes say that – or “That’s your lot!” / “That’s your bleedin’ lot!” “That’s it!” “That’s bleedin’ all!” – or some other variant. As the CD ends with “That’s All Folks!” – it’s quite poignant and absolutely right on every level. Shads fans, instrumental fans, Jet fans…..purchase with 100% confidence. You won’t be disappointed.

Just played mine through today - really great music, this! Jet's input is enough reason to get this cd, but on all levels I am enjoying every track...can't wait for the issue of the backing track version!

Agreed , David. This is an outstanding album with tracks like 'Boot Hill' and 'Kakadu Sunrise' that would have fitted easily into the best of the classic Shadows repertoire. There's also real variety and innovation and the quality of playing is superb. Highly recommended!

A great CD as were the other two! Barry told me at Shadowmania he has enough unreleased tracks for a follow up CD possibly next year.
