Hank's Gypsy Jazz Tour - Cancelled

PostPosted: 19 Sep 2011, 09:39

We received an email late Friday night to inform us that the Hank concert tour in the UK next year would not be going ahead. We understand from the tour promoter that he had just received a call from Nunzio (Hank's Australian accordionist) who gave no reason for the cancellation. The promoter didn't have any more information but he would follow through over the weekend and come back to us later this week. As we have been at Shadowmania over the weekend we have heard nothing more.

If we do get more information we will of course put through updates.

I dont think it was ever on was it. I got through to all the venues on the list and none of them knew anything about it except for Croydon who told me they had been selling tickes for the show but they couldn;'t sell anymore. There was no advertising except at Leo's Den. other Hank and Shads tours have always been advertised everywhere at the same time and tickets were always on sale at the same time everywhere in the past. Do you think it was for real. it wasn;'t Mel Bush this time. It's always been Mel Bush that does the tours for Hank.

This makes my wonder if Hank's new studio album is still in the pipeline.

This tour was being put together by a promoter who specialises in Jazz Festivals - nothing to do with the usual concert promoters (Mel Bush retired at least 4 years ago and "Reunited" was promoted by the CRO). We received a list of venues and dates from the promoter who told us that tickets were already on sale at Croydon. So we assumed (wrongly as it turned out) that the dates etc. were all OK and tickets would be on sale at all the venues as and when the theatres decided to open their box offices. If we hear more we will update everyone.

Thanks Pat for posting this update.
Like Roger Cook and a few others I know, I've two tickets I bought for the Fairfield Halls date.

Funny thing is that Bruce Welch specifically mentioned Hank Marvin's Gypsy Jazz Tour at Shadowmania.

Curious!

Mel Bush is still going as a promoter. I called his office today and they told me they're not touring Hank this year. And Reunited was promoted by Live Nation also.

Haha, Paddy Doherty lives not far from me, perhaps I should have a word, see if he can pull some strings ;)

Bit miffed about this news though, no wonder Wigan Jazz Festival treated me like a proper numpty when I was asking about tickets!

Thanks for the update John.

Interesting - I just got news today that Hank will be doing Gypsy Jazz concerts in Melbourne Oz later this year, from the local 'enterpraunter' (in Engadine NSW) who claims he is doing the organising...........
