Someone recently asked how to set up an echo, I think it was four taps each having seperate delay lengths in milliseconds. I can't recall the guy's name or posting.

I am able to do that and if that member gives me a reply on this general page (I only log in now a few times a day) or someone who (I think Robbo replied ) can point me to the topic I'll gladly oblige.

I recorded one blip of the BBC time signal this morning and used that as my dry echo source for fiddling with--quite simple really.

Hi all.
Question, Is there a piece of kit or software that I can enter millisecond info, ie 100ms 200ms 300ms etc,etc, and get the piece of kit to play it back as a click sound, or any sound?

I have asked a question under the post A PIECE OF KIT.
I am trying to find out what are the head timings of my ESE 6 echo, in milliseconds, with the motor running at the slowest speed.
The reply's I have receved are saying yes, but up to now I havent been able to sus it out, I am not a computor whiz kid. But I will keep at it.
Is this the post you refer to?

I have recorded the six echoes , one from each head if the ESE. I have tried posting them here on the site but the site for whatever reason wont allow it.
I could email them to you and perhaps you could let me know what the millisecond timings are.

Hi Geoff, sorry for the delay--got a touch of man flu which means I won't be at Robbo's gig tonight in Knareborough. By all means send the file. I'll post my mail in a PM.

Echo timing measurement is illustrated very well on Piet and Jacob's Echo Tapper site which I'm replicating in the attached word doc. In essence what you are doing is seeing the sound wave visually along a timeline using the editing programme's spectral analysis tool and picking out the echos (in this word doc attachement the figure is of Peace Pipe).

If you haven't that facility then you have to supply a set of muted echo taps for analysis. Don't include any backing track which makes it difficult to spectrally pick out the taps. If you have a set of timings and number of heads in mind then so much the better 'cause I'm able to set these up as in the fig below where I have 8 taps running each having a gain and delay time set by me. The sample you see is of one pip of the BBC's time signal for purity.

Here's Wonderful Land multitap muted echos in Sound Forge's Spectral Analysis tool. Just playing the mutes and zoomed in clearing the vision so to speak. You can see where the trips are and the timeline. In this case it's a Meazzi PA304 with three heads in use. study the timings as this is a clear solo lead line and there you have it.

Oh to be time traveller and take a trip back to Abbey Road as The Shads record WL and explain to Hank that in 50 years time people will be analysing the length of his echos in milliseconds using a piece of domestic equipment that will contain ten thousond times more computing power than the Americans will have to put the first man on the moon!

What would Hank's reply be?

These editors such as Sony Sound Forge Pro & Adobe Audition use the same sort of methodology and they are extremly good and are quite expensive. The main reason for me prefering Sony's gear is that it breaks down into three seperate software programmes. I use S/Forge as the editor, then for multitracking Acid Pro is the application and finally Vegas for film work. All three are bought individually (quite expensive) but they integrate their capabilities with one another.

Did you receve my email of today? I sent one Sat with the six echo recordings but it came back from your server as unacceptable. I have resent with just the one echo to see if that gets to you.
