Hank's guitar at Knebworth

I can't remember if this has been discussed before...

Watching Cliff and the Shadows at Knebworth again. I started to wonder why Hank changed guitar for one song. For most of the set, he's using the '58 Strat - you can clearly see the dents and chips along the bottom. However, for Good Golly, Miss Molly. he switches to a white Fender HM Strat with pointy-ish headstock and HSS pickup arrangement. It certainly gives a different sound, but I wonder why he chose that guitar for that number...

Probably "because he can" :)
I wonder if this white Strat is the one that was repainted black and at various times sported HSS and also SSS scratchplates.
cheers

One on ebay in the states if anyone wants one

I do wonder if this was a plug by Fender maybe as it was a new guitar they launched they wanted Hank to give it some airplay maybe?

Steve - you may be right about Fender, but Hank's an unlikely choice to promote a heavy metal guitar...

Ian - completely different guitar as Steve notes - a Fender HM (= Heavy Metal) - with, as far as my aged eyes can see, no scratchplate, little or no contouring and a painted headstock with 'Strat' in large silver script. $20 on eBay. Am I that much of a completist? [says the guy who bought a Sue Ryder bass because Mark Griffiths used one on the Royal Variety Show...]

Perhaps it was an early attempt at a Signature model :D

Hmmm... I'll still be within easy striking distance of Culver City (and mobile by car) when that auction closes...

Well if you look and listen at that GMMM Knebworth ...no wonder he changed guitar...try to dive bomb that 58 strat like he did that HM strat, while gee-sing around on the floor with Sir Cliff...i think u brake the guitar in half :D ;) :(
