Met the great Sir Jimmy four years ago in a small Glencoe restaurant - one of his houses is there apparently. The locals didn't turn a hair obviously but the tourists perked up when he came in - seemed an unlikely place to bump into a bright blue shell suit.
Jimmy quickly decided to chat quickly to every table to 'stop the stares and chat' - and after that everyone let him get on with his meal in peace. Totally charismatic at every table - he asked my wife if she took her father out for a meal every week - cheek!!

Jimmy Savile? A professional, of course, when working in television but with a very individual style of presenting. I worked on the last series of Jim'll Fix It (recorded December 93 to March 94) and on the special 20 Years of Jim'll Fix It recorded on 18th December 94 for the Christmas schedule. The guest list for that last show gives a flavour of the man
Introduced by Andi Peters, with Ray Alan, Frank Bruno, Henry Cooper, Tommy Dcherty, Sally Faber, The Grumbleweeds, Rod Hull and Emu, and Let Loose.
On TOTP he was never one for sticking particularly close to the script, but he would time out the countdowns with one of those characteristic catch-phrases or a hand movement. A real character!
