Al Martino, whose hits included "Spanish Eyes", "Can't Help Falling in Love", "Here in My Heart" and "Volare", has died at the age of 82.

He played the Frank Sinatra-type role of Johnny Fontane in "The Godfather" and sang the 1972 film's title score "The Love Theme From The Godfather".

I took my late Aunt, at her request, many years ago to see Al Martino at Stafford. Although not my kind of singer I had to admit he was a class act! Backed by a small orchestra he has the audience in the palm of his hand. Wasn't too big a star to meet everyone after to sign autographs. Will be missed by many.

His place in the history of popular music is assured.
