O / T Buddy Holly - Joe Meek Night (Ace Cafe)
What are you doing on February 4th? Fancy a night (free admission) of rockin' music at London's heritage site the Ace Cafe? Lots of Buddy Holly, Joe Meek / RGM sounds, 60s Beat and some Doo Wop + R'n'R. Can't be bad. See you there?? Yours truly on lead vocals & harmony / backing vocals (& occasional tambourine / maraccas / claves etc). "Peggy Sue" / "Oh Boy" / "Everyday" / "Rave On" / "Sheila" / "Donna" / "I Wonder Why" / "Telstar" / "Tell Laura I Love Her"/ "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" / "Runaway" / "Johnny Remember Me" / "Just Like Eddie" / "Heartbeat" and many, many more!
At the Ace Cafe London on Saturday 4 February 2012 The Triumphs are presenting a Buddy Holly Tribute Show which will use a selection of the material used by the acts who appeared at the Surf Ballroom at Clear Lake Iowa USA on that fateful night of Monday 2nd February 1959. The acts who appeared on that show were Frankie Sardo, Dion and the Belmonts, The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly and his touring Crickets. Malcolm Lenny a member of Joe Meek's band the Packabeats (remember they played the theme from 'The Traitors' over the opening titles of the feature film 'Telstar') will be performing with The Triumphs. The address of the Ace Cafe is Ace Corner, North Circular Road, Stonebridge, London, NW10 7UD. The Ace's telephone number is 0208 961 1000.
Absolutely nothing to do with the Shadows. But.....they were all HUGE Buddy Holly fans and Bruce Welch rates the Packabeats' "The Traitors" very highly. Maybe see some music fans there? Presumably those who live in fairly close proximity.
Bests.....Rob
