Bo Diddley radio/tv broadcast ?

Postby ash » 02 Mar 2012, 12:36

I've been lucky enough to obtain a cdr containing some radio luxembourg shows. At the end are 2 songs which sound like they come from a tv show - Tell Me How Do You Feel (apparently a Ray Charles song also performed by Bobby Darin) and Bo Diddley which does feature a harmonica possibly indicating it dates from the Licorice Locking era. Does anyone know when these tracks were performed ?

I take it you mean Cliff Richard and/or The Shadows as distinct from Bo Diddley himself.

The Shadows performed Bo Diddley live on TV at least once, in their own ATV special in the early autumn of 1962 (just about the time the "Out Of The Shadows" LP was being released). They also did a live (echo-less) version of Perfidia and had been performing Little B live since early 1962.

They also performed Bo Diddley at the London Palladium when Bruce was apparantly leaving The Shads and Bruce Forsythe put himself forward as a replacement Bruce and they perfomed Bo Diddley together. The lyrics were changed to incorporate Bruce Forsythe.

I think it's the London Palladium one. Anyone know what tracks the Shads played on this show ? Does the rest of the show circulate ?
Tell me how do you feel sounds like cliff singing and has (i think) a 12string guitar solo. Just before the solo he sings something like how do you feel Jay (or possibly Jake). Any ideas anyone ?
Thanks for the id on Bo Diddley Bob.
It's amazing these tracks survived in some form given all the things that were wiped or lost. I wish the Daniel Farson meets the Shads show early 1962 had survived. Apparently his show with Cliff from 1959 is in the archives. Never come across that one though. Hopefully the kaleidoscope/Missing episodes team will have some more luck in the future. They turned up a missing Oh Boy episode last year in a private collection. What else could be out there i wonder ?
