I watched "Who Dares Wins" on BBC1 last night and one of the list was titled The 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time and Hank was NOT on the list!
How many guitarists have cited Hank as their influence to take up playing guitar and he is not considered in the top 100?
Pete.

How can Hank NOT be on that list???? That is ridiculous! He was the first British guitar hero!!! So many of today's guitarists said Hank was the reason they started and the list reads like a who's who of music: David Gilmour, Tony Imommi, Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Mark Knofler and Peter Frampton. Theres probably many more as this is just off the top of my head.
Hank is 70 and he is still criminally underrated (as is the Shadows)

People really need to stop getting so worked up when a list of guitarists/bands comes out and Hank or The Shadows aren't on it. As Dave R says, "greatest" is an entirely subjective opinion and...y'know what...a lot of people haven't heard of Hank or The Shadows, probably least of all some twenty-something researcher working for a television company.
As with all the '50 Greatest Albums Of All Time'-type lists, they're invariably skewed towards whoever votes for them, which is why numbers 1, 2 or 3 are usually occupied by a band or album that's fairly recent, regardless of its merit against the other contenders.
We know how influential Hank and The Shadows are - that's presumably why we're all here in the first place. It might not be what you want to hear, but the fact is that the majority of people don't know that, and probably don't care. It's no use getting all worked up about it because it's a fact of life - trends change, and it doesn't look like there's going to be a massive cultural shift any time soon. Enjoy the music for what it is and the effect that its had on you. Getting angry because other people don't like the same things as you is just a waste of effort.

who would you put in your top list of 100 singers? So many different styles - ages! Henrix comes out on top of most polls but wouldnt get in my 100. Its all down to personal preferences at the end of the day!
