A very good morning to all Shads fans across the world!

On a casual shopping spree in town this morning, upon browsing in HMV I came across a CD... 'Cliff Richard- The Early Years' (released 2008). I glanced at the track listing... 22 great vintage rock 'n' roll tracks! (Apart from Schoolboy Crush!)
Not only that... 8 bonus tracks... unreleased alternate takes, undubbed versions and so forth!
Cracking stuff to get Saturday off to a rocking start!!!!!
However... I have a question about one of the tracks that hopefully you knowledgable trainspotters will be able to answer.
It concerns 'Now's The Time To Fall In Love'...
It's a completely different version to the one that I know and have on a 45... the b-side to one of the big hits.
Is it a case of stereo and mono versions?
I know the mono and stereo originals sometimes have slight differences in performance, guitar solo etc... but this is a completely different version entirely!
Even a different arrangement...
I hadn't got 'Now's The Time To Fall In Love' on CD... apart from a version without the backing vocals... a version that other than lacking backing vocals is exactly the same as the version I'm familiar with... I nearly confused myself there!!!!!

Anyway... go and get this CD if you haven't already. I can honestly say it is one of the best Cliff and the Shads collections I have ever bought!

p.s. I got five albums in one of the Dave Brubeck Quartet aswell! A bit of Joe Morello, man... know what I mean? Cool, man... cool!

A. "Explicit lyrics" ??? On a Dave Brubeck collection? How does that work?

B. New: £5.10 (26 other sources for the same product new from as little as £4.16)

Used: from £17.15

Perhaps they're pre-CBS or something.

The booklet coming with the four CD set "Cliff Richard - The Rock 'n' Roll Years 1958 - 1963" reads:

"Now's The Time To Fall In Love (original undubbed version)
Recorded: 20 September 1960, Abbey Road Studios
Guitars: Hank Marvin & Bruce Welch / Bass: Jet Harris
Drums: Tony Meehan / Producer: Norrie Paramor / Engineer: Malcolm Addey

This Song was first attemtped in July and despite taping over fiteen takes that version
remains unissued. Two months later Cliff was back in the studio and the song was picked
up again. The take used here, number 42, features the same vocal as the finished master
but does not include The Shadows' backing vocals were an important part of the
finished song."

Explicit lyrics? Perhaps they meant complex time signatures?!

I love listening to Dave Brubeck. Very interesting, impressive, inspiring stuff musically. It's definitely got that 'wow' factor!

Jet had as prominent a lead line as Hank in more than a few recordings.

I have noticed this too, I have the original 45 single, the version of "Nows the Time to Fall In Love" sounds like the undubbed version on the Cliff Box Set "The Rock 'n' Roll Years 1958-63".
I bought the "Early Years" as part of the box set "and they said it wouldn't last" and I agree the arrangement is completely different, think I noticed the extra drums on this version (bongos?), does seem a lot "busier" than the single version.
Perhaps there was was some extra overdubbing done?
