From time to time 'grey area' cassettes (CDs nowadays) circulate amongst fans & collectors. One that I came across a very long time ago was "The Shadows At The Glasgow Empire" November, 1965. For many years I thought nothing about it. Indeed I had completely forgotten about it. Whilst clearing out the loft recently I found some old cassettes - including one that had some "Glasgow Empire" tracks on it. Whilst trying to date it more accurately I discovered that the old Glasgow Empire had been closed and demolished in 1962. Cliff's various books were a little vague on some dates. However, the fabulous site that Jay Hartop directed us to (http://www.bradfordtimeline.co.uk/mindex65d.htm) has solved the mystery. The concert was actually at the Glasgow Odeon on September 24th, 1965. Brilliant! Thanks again Jay.

Indeed I did. It was the Rostill line-up, and I was there (though it wasn't me who recorded it...)

Well done George! Jim....I obviously missed that nugget of info from '....some years ago.'!! So....for those who also missed George's original post from waaayyy back when. There we are. I should have guessed that George might have been in the audience. Och aye!

I have a recording of this concert too. I have actually eight tracks. I don't know if more were played.

Its a pity the guy who supplied this recording(not me by the way) never got any credit for it.
Some members on this site received a taped copy from me some years back and it seemed
it wasn,t in general bootleg circulation at that time as these gentlemen had never heard it.
No I,m not complaining!!!! happy its being enjoyed!!!

It was a very long time ago (pre - CDs!!) that someone supplied me with a tape of the Glasgow 1965 concert. Such a long time ago now that I can no longer even recall where (or who) it came from.....definitely not from the Glasgow Empire though, although Cliff and the Shads did appear there before it was closed and razed to the ground. George - do you have any memories of that grand old theatre??

Strangely enough, I don't recall ever being at the Empire... Saw the Shadows with Cliff at Odeon one nighters, and on their own at the Alhambra with Lena Martell in a variety show (1968). Remember seeing Hair at the Metropole, and still regularly visit the King's and Theatre Royal.

Then there was the Apollo...
