Past Masters

Went to see Past Masters last night at the Acorn Theater Worksop. Well im a true Yorkshire man but the £10.50 to see these lads was worth every penny. Well over two hours of non stop Cliff and The Shadows played in the best possible way. You could not have see or heard it played any better even by HBM & friends. It was a truly memorable night. From the first number Daniel Martin played lead guitar with a perfect style and awesome sound helped along by his little helper Dave Robbo Robinson, you have have got to give this guy a lot of credit for all of this to happen, and playing his Burns twelve string in a few numbers, he played a mean tambourine at times also. They had there old pal and and Cliff sound alike, such a good showman great to see Jock back for this show. Dave Eyre was as brilliant as ever with his nice Gong effect.Malc played up to his usual immaculate rhythm, don't know how he remembers all the chords, he got his J200 out for a few tunes and blessed up with its powerful sound. Not to forget Derek who always gives a great bass fill with his many different instruments. Great sound from such a small amp. Joy did them proud with a good light show all night, not just a pretty face. I took a few photos but cant work out how to get them on the site, will try later. Cant wait for the next time. Cheers Neil

Thanks Neil, everyone enjoyed the gig and we may do a similar show again next year.
I was pleased with Daniel's contribution, particularly his sound as we had fitted some Vintage Tonerider pickups to his Strat and he was using my Atlantis echo box for it's first outing with us. Through the Vox AC30 TBX fitted with Roger Alcock's Vintage Unit, the sound couldn't have been any closer to the live sound that Hank made back then.
I used the Rod Jenks AC30/4 via my ESE Echomatic with the '63 Strat and I thought the two guitars sounded pretty close to the mark and was delighted at the audience response.
It was great to see so many of the members here at the gig and we all value your support, not only at our Cliff/Shads celebration gig, but at the other 50s' & 60s' show that we do also.
We look forward to doing it all again in August at Mapperley Plains in Nottingham on 17th August and the following week at The Dearne Playhouse 25th August.:)

Dave,
Sounds like you put on a great show.
Will there be any video clips available on line?
Cheers,
JB

Hi John, thanks for your interest. We did have the video camcorder running and there is some good footage. It's a while since I did any stuff for You Tube and I need to re-learn how to do it, but I'll have a go over the next day or so at uploading a few numbers. :)

Thanks Hans - the amps are plenty loud enough, they don't need miking up when you know what you're doing , which in our case is trying to keep the audience onside . . . . . . ;)

Superb! Whoever posted the videos (was it your good self Dave?) on Youtube - many, many thanks. What a fantastic selection. A great, great sound. Fabulous playing by all concerned. These videos say it all....the sound, the enthusiasm, the love of the music, great ensemble and great skill. I am as guilty as anyone of sometimes taking all of this for granted. There are so many dedicated and talented musicians on this site keeping this wonderful music alive. Dave, Past Masters (+ Daniel & Jock)...THANK YOU ALL.

Rob :D

The videos are are really good and the sound from the video is great but nothing can compare with being there, the sound is just so real live. If anyone wants to hear the Shadows sound go and see the Past Masters live. I don't work for them i just love this music and these guys play. They nail it to perfection.Try to go and see them live. Its cheaper than going to see the Shadows also.( Im from Yorkshire ) didn't you guess. Cheers Neil :D :D :D
