My first post and I thought I'd bring something to the party. Not sure if this has been posted before - a rather nice alternative version of 'Atlantis' which seems to be from a TV show:

Thanks for posting this one Martin. It's interesting.

Personally, it doesn't "move" me at all. For me the main ingredient of songs played by the Shadows is their "haunting" sound, which most people refer to as THAT SOUND. Most of the songs they played, especially the early ones, are quite simple melodies (Bruce;s favorites were the ones with only three chords) , and if they do not have THAT sound, they do not have very much appeal. A notable exception is Guitar Tango. But take Kon-Tiki, for example. It was one of the five Shadows #1 hits, but imagine how it would sound as an acoustic version. Plain and boring, I'm afraid. But played with that soaring echo and that fantastic sound, this plain melody gives you the shivers (at least it does me :D)

It makes a change to hear something new from The Shadows obviously not as good as the original recording but what can you expect fom a live TV show. Can anyone post the rough acoustic version of Genie With The Light Brown Lamp?

I might be wrong but to my ear it sounds like the classic "Whine"
on a Burns Marvin using the pickup combination as for Lady Penelope
and a few others circa mid 65.
Admittedly there is an acoustic ring to the tone

Yup, sounds like a Burns to me too.

I agree: this not an acoustic version but this is played on Burns Marvin guitar.

Yup - its a Burns and , for me (OK? "for ME") it epitomises why I went off the Shadows in 1964 in search of other music - they lost their Signature sound and here is a classic case in point. It could have been anyone.

I think that on this day Hank had received a letter telling him that his bi-annual test for bowel cancer pack would be arriving within a couple of weeks and he was quite glum about it.
My letter arrived today, coincidentally.

USE IT, Ecca. I didn't, and had to have an emergency op to remove a tumour that totally blocked my bowel.
