Yeh, well, I wouldn't expect too many responses to this post Hans. The 'fans' don't like it when Hank does anything a little bit different...."He should stick to Apache, Wonderful Land etc., that's what made him famous!" ;)

Actually, that's quite a lot different, and brilliant, and shows what he can do when the reins are taken off. Shame he hasn't done more of that genre. Looking forward to his gypsy jazz album though - if it's ever released.

Thanks for posting that Hans....

Hi! I really enjoyed that tune as well. Thank you for posting it. So that's what the tremolo arm on Hank's guitar looks like! Usually I just see the end of it, where it attaches to the bridge. Ben is quite a good player, too...love that scratch sound he's playing.

This tune reminded me a little of a tune on the Specs Appeal album. Oddly enough, it's called Spider Juice...where Hans' tune is actually named after a spider. I looked up the Spider Juice tune in Arpeggio's discography book, and it's named for the way Tahlia Marvin pronounced "orange juice" when she was a little girl. I like "Spider Juice" and "Scotch on the Socks" because of the wah-wah pedal effects. Like Martin says, it's something different than the classic Shadows sound that they're known for.

Kind regards,
Donna

Well known track featured on the video "Hank plays live" (first available on VHS and later on DVD) recorded in 1995 at the Birmigham Symphony Hall.

Hi Didier,
Are you sure this track is definitely on the 1995 DVD of Hank Plays Live ? - I have the VHS but no way of playing it now,
so want to be sure before I purchase the DVD. I found this link for the DVD and it's not mentioned ...

I also like very much these two tracks and also regret that Hank didn't play too much this kind of tunes, but Marvin, Welch and Farrar had the same problem with the people who only wanted to hear early Shadows tunes.
I have the DVD and yes Redback is on.

"Redback" was already featured during the 1994 Hank Marvin & Brian Bennett tour. It didn't have a title at that time, so each night it was titled after the venue: "Brighton Boogie", "Crawley Boogie", "Gloucester Boogie" and so on. It's in quite the same style as "Hot Rox", a track from the "Heartbeat" album, which was played for only a couple of concerts during the aforementioned 1994 tour and thereafter replaced by "Dance On". Warren explained at the time, they thought it to be too 'heavy' for some of the audience members, almost giving them 'heart palpitations'.

Thanks Pierre for confirming that - I've put my order in.
