Farewell to Eric Sykes.

I was very sad to read that Eric Sykes has died. He was one of the funniest comedians/writers that these islands have ever produced. And no filth either.

At 89 he's had a good innings and despite being virtually deaf and blind he alway showed his love of life. He was an accomplished guitarist who loved flamenco.

A gentleman who will be sadly missed.

Bye bye Eric, and thanks for all the laughs.

Yes one of the last of the old brigade of comedians where the scripts
were clean and funny even if a little dated now.
A whole generation will remember Hattie Jaques screaming about a
mouse running loose, then Constable Corky (Derek Guyler) rings the
doorbell and then all is well or something like that!!!

He was one of my father's generation, who went through the war.
No boasting or crudeness but character and strength.
And in Mr Sykes case, a lot of talent.
Definitely will be missed. :(

There will be a special tribute to Eric in Sunday night's Not On Your Telly (if I get back from London in time!!), presented by myself at 7PM on www.trentsound.com

The tribute is being put together specially for the show by fellow presenter Steve Oliver.

R.I.P. Eric.

Yes, he was funny but clean. To me it's the mark of a great comedian, e.g. Ken Dodd, Tommy Cooper, and like many comics he was able to play straight roles with conviction. And he could play the guitar!
I look forward to a worthy tribute programme from the BBC.

Sorry to hear this sad news.
Had one of the funniest nights I can remember when Eric and Jimmy Edwards co-starred in a stage play here in Sydney.
Each of course ad-libbed most of the time and tried to outdo each other with their send-ups.
Ian. :(
