I was listening to the "Thank You Very Much" album recently and wondered about the stage set-up. The setlist was played by this order of line-ups: Cliff Richard & The Shadows, then The Shadows, then Cliff Richard with his band, then Cliff Richard & The Shadows, then Cliff Richard with his band and then all together for the final. Did the London Palladium have a system, whereby they could 'roll-away' the stage set-up of The Shadows and 'roll-in' the stage set-up of Cliff's band and the other way around? Also, why did the reunion concert also feature solo performances by Cliff and his band? I remember reading, that the public felt a little conned in buying tickets, because of this.

I can't speak about the stage setup, as I wasn't at the concerts, though the Palladium does have a revolving stage...
However, I do remember Cliff being quite emphatic in newspaper interviews that he would be playing his new material, as that was where he was musically. On at least one occasion (if my memory is correct) he did remark that he felt sorry for the Shadows, as all they had was nostalgia... whereas he had his new material.
Quite a contrast to the 1984 concerts which were just Cliff and the Shadows (plus Alan Park on the Cliff numbers).

Yes, I have read it too, in one of the 1978 issues of Dynamite International. Two of the tracks from The Shadows' set weren't that old or 'nostalgic' though. The hit single "Let Me Be The One", also on the "Specs Appeal" album from three years earlier and "Walk Don't Run" from the then recent "Tasty" album. I still wish for a complete DVD and/or double CD of the complete show. I think Cliff's band was really good too, especially the guitar playing of Terry Britten.

Having been present at the Paladium Concert the night that it was recorded, including the "mistake" by Bruce, if memory serves correct all of the equipment was on stage for the entire performance.

Hi
This Is one of my favourite recordings of The Shadows / Cliff and The Shadows. Cliff Richard
I love Alan Jones 's Bass playing on these tracks it realy sounds alive, i remeber buying the Vinyl lp
and being blown away with the sound.
Also some great Playing From Mo Foster With The Cliff Richard Band
I also have a Video tape somewhere of the concert ,but if i recall the video was edited quite a bit and
some of the Tracks which are on the Lp are not on the Video.
il have to try and find it .

The original album has the following tracks, which are not on the video: "Shadoogie", "Atlantis", "Nivram", "Apache" and "Please Don't Tease". The video has the following tracks, which are not on the original album: "F.B.I.", "Let Me Be The One", "Up In Canada" and "Yes He Lives". The last three tracks have been issued in mono as bonus tracks on the 2004 remaster of the "Thank You Very Much" album. The other tracks are both on the original album and the video, but the video has some performances which are probably from different nights and some have been edited, compared to the album versions.

HI
I was there at the concert - two in fact- and they certainly made use of the Palladium's revolving stage. After the Cliff set with his band he came in front of the curtains and sang a song with his guitar - Up in Canada rings a bell - then as the curtains went back it was the Shadows on stage and when the sound of Move It came out just as the curtains were opening you could cut the atmosphere with a knife! The Shads gear had been set up on the back part of the revolving stage and then it spun round during the acoustic number.
Regards

The acoustic number you refer to must be "Melting Into One". "Up In Canada" was performed by Cliff and his band, as can be seen on the video.

During the final track "End Of The Show (Thank You Very Much)", did all musicians play along? So Cliff's band, with Hank and Bruce left and right of Cliff, Brian Bennett on drums, but also Alan Jones on bass guitar, together with Mo Foster and Cliff Hall on keyboards, together with Graham Todd?

They did all play together. When they Shads came on at the end they just plugged into the Cliff's band's gear
