Is this a real photo of The Shadows?

Hello. I was wondering if I could ask your opinion -- do you think this photo (the still in the YouTube video) is a real photo? Or could it be Photo-Shopped? What I mean is...would it have been possible to have these specific four Shadows in the same photo? That is, Jet and BrianB at the same time?

As an after-thought, one of the balloons says Happy Birthday. So this is not a photo of them performing together. They're just standing together.

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards,
Donna

Hi! again, Donna. There was indeed a brief period when Jet and The Guv'nor were in the band together. However, look at the footage in this link http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/video/2 ... s-21-video and see Tony morph into Brian on what looks like the same occasion. Interesting or wot?
Regards, Mart.

Hi, Mart. Thank you for the video link. So it was the "21 Today" party! I watched the video several times...it's the oddest thing. Tony is wearing a black suit, but Brian (if it's him) is wearing a grey suit. And "morph" is exactly the right word! I did an internet image search and found these two photos:

21st_Tony.bmp (66.26 KiB) Viewed 5954 times

21st_Brian.bmp

I guess Tony and Brian were both there. :?: Otherwise, I am seeing things.

Thanks again,
Donna

When Tony "left" The Shadows in October 1961, he was still connected to the group by business links... for a while at least.

There was an organisation called "Shadrich", which seems to have had a management-type function. It may have been an umbrella company supervising the interests of Shadows Music and Joaneline Music, as well as liaising with Peter Gormley (managing originally just The Shadows, but also Cliff from a slightly later date) and the Grade Organisation (the theatrical agents).

Tony stayed on with Shadrich for a while. When one of his co-compositions (Now That You're Gone) was released by The Shadows as late as 1966, it was published by Shadows Music. It may have been Shadrich that Bruce was planning on working for had he left the group in late 1963 (as was the plan for a while).

What strikes me more about this photo is the suits they're all wearing. Not exactly party clothes. I wonder if this was actually a photoshoot for 21 Today rather than a birthday party?

Anyway Cliff had his 21st birthday in October 1961 and Brian took over from Tony in October 1961. So it's quite possible they could all have been in the same room together.

Odd to use this photo on YouTube to illustrate Blue Turns To Grey which featured John not Jet.

BTTG was also notable as a song by two of the Rolling Stones. Not Cliff's image at all!

And the record includes the worst Hank fluff ever to escape the tape editor's blade :)
