Hello all:

Haven't been around in a while, but thought I'd share some new videos of the only (?) American Shadows tribute band, the Troubadours! Yes, we're still at it! We played a couple of shows in the past two months, and here is a batch of videos from our August 24th show in Indianapolis:

Shazam: http://youtu.be/W5CXPxsHgY0
Man of Mystery: http://youtu.be/GG-A3uIidoA

The Frightened City: http://youtu.be/FRK1abuiqWs

Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt: http://youtu.be/ONBQIe8bg5s

We also just posted on YouTube our entire set from the 2003 Shadowmania North America show in Toronto, Canada. Sorry about the graininess, but it WAS shot nine years ago, and technology has come a long way since then. In the audience were Bruce, Licorice and Phil Kelly, who played after us (with a guest drummer), and did - of course - an amazing job! Anyway, you can see our set here: http://youtu.be/t-xu2DZ6Pj8

Here's the setlist:
1. Temptation
2. The Rumble
3. Shindig/Blue Shadows
4. Shindig (repeat video)
5. Blue Shadows (repeat video)
6. The Frightened City
7. Find Me a Golden Street
8. Big Boy
9. National Provincial Samba
10. 36-24-36
11. Fandango
12. Bossa Roo
13. Main Theme
14. Round and Round
15. Genie With the Light Brown Lamp
16. My Resistance is Low
17. Midnight
18. Little B
19. The Lost City
20. Gonzales
21. Man of Mystery

Hope some of you will enjoy all this!
Best,
Ivan

I remember the videos you posted some years ago with Bruce Welch at the Shadowmania North America. Great to see that the band is still active and playing !

Thank you, Jim and Didier, we appreciate it. We don't play very often anymore, but whenever we do, it's always truly enjoyable. And we always get a great reception - Shadow Music is being appreciated even by people that have no idea what it is!

BTW, Jim, is that a Hofner or Framus guitar in your avatar photo? My dad used to have a Hofner 172 in the '60s. Here are a few photos of my dad taken in '66 on the Adriatic coast, when he was playing in a band by the name of the Blue Stars. (Gee, I wonder where they got THAT name? :) ) They were the house band at a hotel for the summer, and played a lot of Shadows, as well as all the hits of the day. My dad was well-known for really nailing Bruce's styel!

Here he is with his newly acquired sunburst Hofner 172:

Here's his band, the Blue Stars (he's on the far left). The amp on the right side of the photo belonged to my dad (he kids that it was the main reason why he was in the band!), and it was a German-made Schaller amp - on the left is an extension cab:

Soon after that (around '67) he got a genuine Fender Mustang and a blackface Fender Deluxe (not Reverb). But he also got married to my mom at the same time, and she soon made him sell all of it - thanks, mom!

Anyway, hope you enjoy these! Thanks again.

Hi Ivan
It is indeed a Hofner 176 Galaxie which I bought new in 1965 and still have to this day.
It cost me the princely sum of 55 guineas.
I played it through a Watkins Copicat and Shaftesbury amp that was as close to the "Hank sound" as I could get in those days.
Oh! memories, memories
Cheers
Jim
P.S. I got married too but the gear stayed :D :D :D

That's great, Jim. You still have that gear?? Wow. I think Hofner did very well back then, they were making guitars closest in appearance to real Strats until the Japanese started flat-out copying them. I think that Schaller amp my dad was using was quite good, too. I've never played through one, but people have good things to say about it on the net. BTW, Jamie Hince of the Kills exclusively uses those old Hofner Galaxie guitars today, including the 176, and he's got a very interesting and unique style.

Hi Ivan, really enjoyed the clips. I was there at the first Shadowmainia in North America at Toronto and remember your band well. It made a great impression on everyone. I especially remember that you played The Savage with Bruce in the audiance, and after you finished the tune he came up to the stage and shook your fathers hand who was playing rhythm. It was a memorable moment. All the best to you and keep playing.

Cheers Nels

Hi Ivan,

Truly delightful performances both old and new.
You proudly represent and re-affirm that the hadows music is well alive in the US.
I hadn't seen your set at Shadowmania Canada, and I am glad you posted it here.
Superb sound and mastery of all the tunes. Bravo.

Blessings,
Abel
