I've just heard a snatch from an Art programme on Radio 3 ! The presenter mentioned that for years some bloke called
Micheal Angelo worked in the shadows. Cant find any mention in my books on the band and would love to know what instument he played. I suspect it could be the brushes! :D

Played the brushes! Boom boom!
I wonder in what context the '... worked in the shadows for many years...' is...
Could mean... he Michael Angelo (Batio?) worked in the shadows for many years before going solo... nothing to do with 'The Shadows' we all know and love, but in the sense of '... worked in the shadows for many years...' perhaps as a session man, in the back ground for various artists, before going solo.
Reminds me very much so of Ronnie Barker telling the story of a mother asking her young son to go and see an elderly neighbour who has recently been unwell...
'Go and see how old Mrs Jones is...'
The boy goes to see Mrs Jones and asks her... he comes back and says...
'Mrs Jones says it's nothing to do with you how old she is...'!!!
'Go and see how old Mrs Jones is'... meaning 'how is old Mrs Jones?' and not 'how old is Mrs Jones?'!...
That's the glory and beauty of the English language folks! The same words, in the same order, in the same sentence, but two different meanings!
:)

As a possible point of interest ?, John Barry issued some recordings under the name of "Michael Angelo and his orchestra".

Could be something to do with this, if Mr Batio is the man in question.

From Wikipedia:-

In 2005, Michael released his highly anticipated cover/tribute/studio album, Hands Without Shadows, which featured guest appearances from such musicians as Mark Tremonti (of Alter Bridge fame), Rudy Sarzo (of Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot, Whitesnake and Dio fame) and virtuoso newcomer Bill Peck. In 2006, DVD Speed Kills 2 was released, in addition to the first in the new Hands Without Shadows series, Performance. Batio's latest release came in 2007, when his first two albums - No Boundaries and Planet Gemini - were remixed and remastered with additional drums, for an album entitled 2 X Again; the title of a song from the first album. Angelo also released three DVDs in 2007: Speed Kills 3, 25 Jazz Progressions and MAB Jam Session.

In 2011, Michael debuted his multi media show "Hands Without Shadows - A Tribute to Rock Guitar" in Las Vegas. In 2012 Michael is touring the world with this show. It is a chronological tribute to rock guitar.

Actually it was a programme about Michelangelo the artist/painter! I suspect the reference "working in the shadows" meant he worked in the background to other artists before achieving fame. It was just the way it came out! :D

Yep, shadows with a small 's'.

At least I've learnt something about Michael Angelo Batio!

Didn't he do some painting and decorating a few years ago in St. Peters Basilica in Rome? :)

Years ago, in the Time Before Google, I needed some information about Michelangelo for a job I was doing. I asked our local lady librarian what reference material she had on Michelangelo and she asked me if she should look it up under Michael or Angelo!

when Michelangelo was painting the ceiling of the Sistine chapel He (apparently) tolds his friends that he could have made a much better job if he hadnt been working in the shadows all the time!!
