Two questions...

Excuse my ignorance, but...

1) In which studio (in Abbey Road) did the Shads record the majority of their work? I'm sure the Beatles made Studio 2 famous for their long periods of residence, but was this the studio that the Shads (and Cliff) tended to use? I believe that Studio 1 is bigger but would this have suited a smaller band? Was Studio 2 the one that pop/rock groups tended to favour?

2) Are the Shadows the group that has had the most compilation albums released? I have now lost count of the number and there seem to be more coming out all the time!!!!

Hi

Studio 2 was where they recorded most of their early stuff. That's the big studio with the control room upstairs. Later, when John Farrar was in the Band and MWF, they used Studio 3, which is a lot smaller and all on one level. It is on the left as you enter the building.

Regards

Stuart

I think the instrumental band with the most number of releases would have to be the Ventures. There are several reasons why this would be so: 1. The Ventures are actually several bands playing under the same name, if one defines a band by the lead guitarist and also the style (Bob Bogle Jazzamaster, Nokie Edwards Mossrite, Gerry McGee, etc.); 2. Some releases sold as the Ventures were actually recorded by session musicians (Hawaii Five-O is often attributed to a session guitarist); and 3. The "Ventures" are still playing, 50 years on!
