Detour by Duane Eddy

Does anyone have or knows where to get hold of a BT for this number ? I have tried all the usual places but drawn a blank. Some time ago I made a BT of my own with a drum machine and me playing rhythm, but it is still lacking depth in my opinion, so any info would be much appreciated.

I'm a member of the Duane Eddy Circle and I do not know of anyone who has made a backing track of "Detour". It may be worth you asking Ian McCutcheon or Roger Allcock to consider doing a backing track on their next backing track CD's?
Dave "Robbo" Robinson has made backing tracks in the past but I believe Dave has now stopped doing them.
You may be able to commission Roger Paulsson to make you a backing track but I believe this could be quite expensive? Again you could suggest to Roger that he considers doing Detour on his next backing track CD.

There does seem to be a surprising lack of Duane Eddy BTs, considering the way he influenced so many young guitarists, just like Hank. What we need is for someone to produce a UB Duane CD. I'd love to do more Duane Eddy material - how many on this forum would be willing to share the cost of commissioning one?

Your right about the chronic shortage of DE bt's & the obvious candidates are the UBHank guys as the few they did on UBH4 are really good
Duane easily outsold the Shadows during his career ( over 100,000,000 sales) & is still recording & touring. His last album was recorded in Sheffield as well.

Lets see if this is viable & if the UBHank guys are interested.... count me in to start things off.

There is a cd "Twang with the Gang" recorded by members of the DE Circle a while back in the standard demo/bt format. (7 tracks) I will check to see if it's still available with the Circle.

Shhh! You are in luck, by the most amazing of coincidences. Audio Recorders in Phoenix, Arizona were very early in converting their studio to stereo. The last session in mono (September 1958) produced Mason Dixon Lion and Cannonball. The very first recording of the first stereo session (October 1958) was . . . . Detour! In stereo, only Duane is placed centre. The muted rhythm guitar is on the left, with sax and drums on the right. A 'vocal remover' should leave you with a usable backing track.

I did try a while back to make a bt from a couple of Duane's early "stereo" tracks with a "remover" but didn't have a great deal of success

I'll have another go & see what happens as I have some different programmes I can try now but do seem to remember that Duane's guitar, although in the center as you say was spread quite wide.....however as it can be done with a lot of the Shads recordings it surely should be possible to get similar results with Duane's.
Detour is probably the best place to start as it was one of the first stereo recordings & might not be mixed as "deeply" as the later stuff.

That being said though the basic rhythm tracks are straight forward enough to replicate if you are starting from "scratch", ....it's the sax that is the big problem for the home "d.i.y.er" like me.

Hopefully this may bring some more Duane bt's to light
