The Rapiers charity gig on the south coast

Many thanks to The Rapiers and Jimmy Jemain for helping to make the charity show in aid of cancer research to be such a success on Saturday night.
The evening started with The Golden Shadow playing some of The Shadows hits from the early sixties followed by some rock 'n' roll numbers to start the dance floor bouncing. They were then joined by the great Steve Etherington on keyboard who carried on the rock 'n' roll theme with some great Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard numbers (this guy can really play and sing). Next to join us on stage was Jess Conrad who sang many well known songs from the sixties, this got the audience singing along with him. He is amazing when you think, here is a man well into his 70's, he still has a good voice and he's such a great entertainer. After the interval he was able to present a cheque for just under £2.000 to Debbie Amor from cancer reasearch, so a big thank to all of you who attended and supported this event.
Then we had The Rapiers on stage, what a fantastic show they put on with their Shadows numbers and a selection of 60's vocal's. Just the sight of them and the sound they reproduce is amazing. They done a half hour set on their own before being joined by Jimmy Jemain, then we were sent straight back to the early sixties with Cliff & The Shadows. Anybody who wasn't able to have seen Cliff & The Shads then were seeing them now, or at least the nearest thing to it. By this time the dance floor was crammed with nearly 300 people watching and hardly room to move, but what a great atmosphere.
The whole idea of putting on this show was organized by some very good friends of mine, Steve Etherington and his lovely wife Aly. They have been such a support to me and my wife Brenda during my fight againest cancer. This has been the focus for me during my treatment and an aim for me to overcome this terrible desease and to get better. So thank you once again to everybody involved in making this event such a success.
Steve Wood.

A big thank you to all who attended this event and helped to make it such a success. We are pleased to anounce that the total amount raised for Cancer Research U.K. was £1,915.50. We have also been contacted by a very kind person who has offered to make the total sum up to £2,000.
