I've just heard, another guitar legend went before his time. His guitar playing to me was among the best around.

Yes...he was a brilliant player. Of course...in 1960 he was playing covers of "Apache", "M O M" etc., etc. Not many people know that he (along with Leo Lyons) auditioned for Joe Meek at 304 Holloway Road in late 1962 (following a stint at the Star Club!). Joe rated him up there with Ritchie Blackmore and offered him a job. Alvin (real name Graham!) thought that his future lay more in the Midlands and so turned it down. Two sides (both instrumentals) survive, but remain unissued to this very day - "Husky Team" (the old Outlaws / Saints fave) and "Alvin's Tune". Post - Woodstock, as a star struck teenager (6th formers having been around Nottingham University), myself and three equally music - mad friends found ourselves (completely by chance) sitting on the next table to TYA in Nottingham's Kardomah Coffee House on King Street. We were huge fans and had all of their albums between us. Regretfully, I have to report that none of us had the nerve to talk to them or approach them.....Oh well...

Interestingly, Husky Team is a reworking by Joe Meek of the tune he originally titled Orbit Around The Moon, and recorded as the Blue Men in 1960 (first issued on his Triumph label)... shades of things to come with Telstar.
