Beware of fake PayPal emails.

I received a couple of emails asking me to verify account information within 72 hours, or my account would be suspended. The emails looked quite convincing, but something didn't sit comfortably with me, so I forwarded them to PayPal for checking. I have just received an email back confirming that they were fake and attempts at phishing my account information.
I know a lot of people here use both eBay and PayPal, so please be aware.

These have been around for ages, Alan, not only for PayPal. I get several every day. To be honest, they shouldn't fool anybody because they are never personally addressed. It's always, 'Dear PayPal Customer', or similar. They're suspending your account but they don't know who you are?!!!
Sadly, despite that, some people do, apparently, get taken in.

Agreed Noel, but I've been with PayPal for over 10 years and these were a first, so it's just an alert/reminder to be careful.

I receive such messages on a regular basis, either in english or in french (badly translated). PayPal never send such message, it's easy to spot they are fake, just look at the sender's email address...
Never answer to such messages. In case of doubt, log on your PayPal account the normal way to check if everything is OK.
You may forward these phishing messages to
spoof@paypal.com.

One way of checking if these emails are legit, from hotmail at any rate, is to hover your cursor over the link they have asked you to respond with. Look to the bottom left and you will see the actual path highlighted in the corner. If it has anything other than Paypal.com it's bogus!
As Didier says, if in doubt, don't click anything, just visit the website direct and check from there. Phishing is a despicable way of conning people, report them all if you can.

Had a few Pay Pal ones over the past year also ones from every bank in the country even though I don't have account with them.
A major one doing the rounds is that your pc is blocked by what appears to be a Police web site. This informs you that your pc has been found to be downloading illegal
material be it music, porn or other stuff. It requires that you pay a £100 fine or risk prosecution and further fines if not paid within 72 hours. It seems this is not a virus and your security will not stop it. Several people in this area have received this scam from what appears to be a very convincing Cheshire Police web site.
