Cliff and Shads b sides

Hello everyone

This may have been covered a lot of times before - but where can I find a guide to collecting all the Cliff B-sides that the Shads play on?

I have a listing of the songs - but on which releases would I find them?

I know there is the Rare B-Sides Album, and some of the B-sides are also album tracks, and some are on Rocking with Cliff etc, but I haven't found them all.

A guide as to which compilation albums to get them on would be very useful.

Even better - an As and Bs album that collects everything together from the 60s, similar to the Shads As and Bs collection.

:)

Howard

Hi Howard,

There is the Cliff's 6CD box 'The Singles Collection' (EMI 7243 5375512). I think Leo's Den don't have it on stock anymore, but the set crops up regularly on eBay. You can see the tracks here: http://www.cliffrichardsongs.com/cliffandshads/ if you scroll down to 2002 you find the six CDs listed with all tracks.

Good luck,

Ulrich

Cliff's 50th anniversary, 8-CD box set had a lot of good material on it. Since its release in September 2008, some of the eight CDs have been re-released individually -- so you wouldn't have to buy the whole box set necessarily. Here is a link to the relative info from Cliff's website. http://cliffrichard.org/biog/albums.cfm

I particularly like these two albums, which are a mix of Cliff solo material, and Cliff/Shads material:

Lost & Found (From The Archives) - Released: April 2009

Tracklist: Deep Purple - I Love You The Way You Are - Words - The Letter - If I Do - Note In A Bottle - All My Love (Solo Tu) (Alternate Take 1) - The Day I Met Marie (Alternate Take 1) - No Name No Fame - Love Is Like A Crescendo - Postmark Heaven - When You Are There - A Sad Song With A Happy Soul - 'Cause I Believe In Loving - I (Who Have Nothing) - Run For Shelter - Sweet Lovin' Ways - Love Of My Life - There's A Honky Tonk Angel - Song Of Yesterday - Mobile Alabama School Leaving Hullabaloo

Rare B-Sides 1963-1989 - Released: April 2009

Tracklist: Say You're Mine (2008 Digital Remaster) - True, True Lovin' (2008 Digital Remaster) - Just Another Guy (2008 Digital Remaster) - Just A Little Bit Too Late (2008 Digital Remaster) - Somebody Loses (2008 Digital Remaster) - I Get The Feelin' (2008 Digital Remaster) - Our Story Book (2008 Digital Remaster) - Sweet Little Jesus Boy (2008 Digital Remaster) - Occasional Rain (2008 Digital Remaster) - She's Leaving You (2008 Digital Remaster) - So Long (2008 Digital Remaster) - Monday Comes Too Soon (2008 Digital Remaster) - I Was Only Fooling Myself (2008 Digital Remaster) - Time Flies (2008 Digital Remaster) - Annabella Umbrella (2008 Digital Remaster) - Pigeon (2008 Digital Remaster) - A Thousand Conversations (2008 Digital Remaster) - Mr Cloud (2008 Digital Remaster) - Empty Chairs (2004 Digital Remaster) - The Old Accordion (2008 Digital Remaster) - Come Back Billie Jo (2008 Digital Remaster) - I Only Know I Love You (Na Voce Na Chitarra E O Poco E Luna) (2008 Digital Remaster) - Back In Vaudeville (2008 Digital Remaster) - Stronger Than That (Extended Version) (2008 Digital Remaster) - I Just Don't Have The Heart (The X Mix)

Kind regards,
Donna

What I always wondered about is the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles' statement (certainly in the older editions that I've owned) that the Shadows had five UK number one singles + 7 with Cliff Richard. It must be perfectly feasible / possible, if maybe not probable, that they played on the B side of at least one of Cliff's other 1960s chart toppers. In my slightly biased opinion that would/should increase their total.

The tracks in question would be 'Just another guy' (flip of 'The minute you're gone') 1965 and 'High and dry' 1968 (flip of Congratulations). The former is much more likely I guess.

But being a newbie, I guess you guys have already discussed that point somewhere along the line, if it were indeed the case.

The tracks "Just Another Guy" and "High 'N' Dry" didn't involve The Shadows. Cliff was probably backed on these by the Norrie Paramor Orchestra or Mike Leander or... A very good and detailed website to find out about session details and releases on which the tracks are to be found is http://www.cliffrichardsongs.com.

Just Another Guy was recorded in Nashville in August 1964, and the musicians were American. Norrie Paramor provided the backing for High 'n' Dry.
