The short answer is yes, can't remember whether it was a special promotion or not.

I seem to remember that these were run of the mill Fender Mex Strats that were sold by a "Catalogue" company (like Kays or Littlewoods) at the time. I presume that they paid HBM for the use of his name and to avoid any "trouble" the sig was put on the scrathplate.
cheers

Hi ,,, i think you will find that the Mexican model of the 3 versions , had the sig on the headstock, which was very bold .

Then came the Squire version with a slightly less bold sig on the headstock .

Then finally the Jap HBM which again had the sig on the headstock and was just slightly less bold again ..

As regards to the sig on the body of the Mex HBM---- that may well be genuine ,,,,,,,, or complete fake ,, who knows .

Regards
Dave

I'm sure the signature was on the upper horn area of the body, not the scratchplate .... or maybe my memory is fading. :(

Hi all
Ian is correct, it was sold via a catalogue. Alan is correct in that the signature was on the upper horn not the scratchplate. I saw one of these for sale quite a few years ago and thought what a ridiculous price. something like 5-600 pounds. I dont think it was made in Mexeco. Could be wrong though.
Regards Geoff.
