RIP Roger. A fantastically talented musician who led a remarkable life. He also fought a very long and brave battle against the disease which finally claimed his life on Saturday, June 15th. He was 74 years old. A true music and RGM legend. Although very frail and in failing health, Roger remained cheerful and positive. He attended several Joe Meek Society events within the past year and was warmly received when he was present at Pipeline 2013 in early April. Although Geoff Goddard 'finished' "Telstar" & "Jungle Fever" with Joe Meek (playing the clavioline) - Roger LaVern was present and correct on both sides playing piano and organ. Roger always maintained that Geoff was brilliant, but that he (Roger) could have played exactly what Geoff Goddard did (only prevented from so doing because the Tornados had to drive back to Great Yarmouth before the recording was completed). This point was never denied by Geoff himself. Be that as it may, Roger's name will forever be associated with so many fabulous Tornados tracks.

Sad indeed to hear of Roger's death. Here is a picture I took at the 2012 Joe Meek Society AGM. Roger is shaking hands with fellow member of The Tornados, Clem Cattini.

So sorry to hear this. I had the privilege of introducing Roger to the audience at the this year's Pipeline Convention, and when I spoke to him later, it was clear that he had enjoyed the day and was moved by the response from everyone. Especially when one of the bands played 'Red rocket'.

Condolences to his family and friends. RIP.

Sad news indeed. I met Roger three or four times in the last couple of years and he was a lovely guy...

What sad news.
I was lucky enough to meet and chat to Roger a couple of times at KSMC and, like Martin, found him to be a lovely man.
RIP Roger

I first came to know about Roger LaVern via Jet Harris' 1975 and 1978 singles "Theme For A Fallen Idol" and "The Guitar Man".
