Noticed last week that a book publication is due next year on the career of John MCLaughlin who was with
the band October- December 1963
The author is looking for any photos of John with the band in this period.
Icant recall ever seeing any pictures or features on the Combo in any music paper at the time.
Certainly remember seeing them on Thank Your Lucky Stars (Jan64?) doing Song of Mexico, and they were at
the NME Pollwinners Concert 64 though not in the telerecorded shows segments. Think the band then split up soon
after as Joe Moretti and John Paul Jones became active session men.

I can certainly recall the "Thank Your Lucky Stars" appearance at the time of Song Of Mexico - the two guitarists were using sunburst Vox solid guitars (Vox Consorts, I think, styled roughly after the Jaguar/Jazzmaster).

I also remember a slightly later Jet appearance to promote Big Bad Bass. Not on TYLS but probably video-recorded by ATV for syndication round the ITV news magazine programmes. It was shown on Granada TV's "People And Places", hosted by Gay Byrne and Bill Grundy. Jet too was "playing" a sunburst Vox solid, though since he did the appearance seated, it wasn't so easy to work out the model from the shape, etc.

There are photographs of 1954 Stratocasters with tremolo arms clearly visible.
If my information is correct Hank would have been 13 years old in 1954.

Whilst Hank made more use of the tremolo than anyone else in the early days
it's stretching it a bit to say that he invented the tremolo, eh?

From memory, according to the book "Jet Harris - In Spite Of Everything", John MCLaughlin (or was that Joe Moretti?) was also the one who actually plays the main melody on "Scarlett O'Hara", "Applejack" and "The Tall Texan". I have to admit, I was a little disappointed when I read about that, learning that Jet Harris did not play lead on those tracks or not at all.

From the 14th December 1963 issue (no.16) of Pop Weekly, but no sign of any pictures in this or succeeding editions of what was essentially a studio band.
