Are you going to The Lakeside Weekend....?

Postby Derek Misselbrook » 23 Jul 2013, 17:14

Hi are you going to the Lakeside Shadows weekend, do you think it needs more groups, do you think the line up as of present is good enough to make people go.........I wonder how many people don't even know it's on !!..........Going on what I've heard Bruce Welch will not visit.....Also going on the grape vine findings "The Bootleg Shadows" are the most entertaining Shadows tribute band in the conuntry at present ,so why are they not on the bill !!........ :)

These are just my thoughts and views, but I know others will think along the same lines.....

Sadly not, I'd already booked shadowsfix and cannot do both, I personally think the line up for both is very strong just a shame no Rapiers at either with the exception of Nathan Hulse playing with the undercover shadows.

I think readers of this forum are well aware of both Lakeside and ShadowsFix. I had already committed to ShadowsFix when Lakeside was belatedly announced so I'm afraid I can't make it this time. The dates are too close.

I'm sure the performers at both will give it their best shot. Let's hope both events do well on the strength of what they are, rather than in spite of what they're not!

No doubt fans of the Rapiers and the Bootleg Shadows will track them down at their own gigs :)

Tend to agree with Jim above. I've gotta couple of tickets for Lakeside, then I live in the SE which is easier to travel to !

Ticket price is certainly an issue. Tours by big names have the advantage of volume sales and economies of scale; they can probably afford to keep their prices fairly low. Lakeside is a commercial operation so it will charge what it thinks it can get. ShadowsFix is a financial risk being taken by members of this community and I imagine that the price has to reflect that risk. Too high and people won't come: too low and they'll bear a heavy loss. Let us hope for the best :)

Unless the customer lives within a very short distance from either venue, the ticket price is "lost in the noise" of the weekend, which will involve travelling, hotel stays, drinking, food and drinking. And did I mention drinking?

For someone travelling down from (say) Scotland, there is no appreciable distinction in the cost of the weekend whether the ticket is £20 or £35. The effect is even more marked for visitors from overseas. When I and companions go to Tilburg, the admission price is a small part of the cost.

I shan't be going to Lakeside myself, purely because it comes just two weeks after "Shadowsfix", which I'd already decided to support and already booked tickets for. The two events are simply too close together. Shadsfix. That said - I would love to see Alan Jones' own band with Daniel Martin in the line - up, I'm sure that they will be fantastic. But, I shall be seeing / hearing both Alan and Licorice at "Shadowsfix". Two major Shadows -themed events is fine.....but not when they are SO close together. I wish everyone at Lakeside well, but don't feel that I can attend this year.

Rob :)

Jim and Rob are both spot-on. Ticket price is only part of my expenditure for Shadowsfix (and for 12 years, Shadowmania...); I had already committed to Shadowsfix when the Lakeside event was announced. Although I have seen all of the bands on the bill, I'm looking forward to the weekend. The lineup for Lakeside is intriguing but I am reluctant to commit to Lakeside so close to the August one. I know that September bacame the traditional Shadowmania time, but this is not Shadowmania. A different date might well have got my support...

Lakeside also coincides with the Bloody Scotland conference in Stirling (which, in my case, is vaguely work-related, and which I missed last year due to Shadowmania)
