I often wondered this, weren't they asked to write the track for the film? (They didn't have time due to panto activities) but another version appeared in the film.
I've also been wondering what happened to the spoken word introduction by the Shads that appeared in the cinema version, wasn't this released as well?
Shame it only made number 24 as it's one of their better tracks.

From somewhere deep within the memory banks I do believe that the Shads were approached about this, but simply had too many other commitments ongoing. I believe that it was the Shadows (or their management) who recommended Paul Ferris for the job instead. The spoken introduction (for use in cinemas) was put out on a strictly limited 'promo' single and later appeared on a Dutch LP. I believe I'm correct in saying (but Jim will put me straight if I'm wrong!) that it has only appeared otherwise on an Australian CD c. 25 years ago now!!

As always, Rob is on the ball. My memory is that the Shads were indeed busy with other things and commissioned Paul F to write the music - rather than than simply suggesting him to the producers.

I am sure I have the cinema promo version but Jim or Malcolm should be able to provide chapter and verse.

I too was bitterly disapointed with the film, which must have been a vanity project for Leslie Phillips who produced it. It was also a great shame that the Shadows original of the theme was not included as it has to be amongst my favourite Shadows tracks ever.

The B side 'Bombay Duck' was also quite interesting as it featured John playing a fuzz bass which you didn't hear often on Shadows records.

The version with the spoken introduction was first issued on CD in September, 1997 on the Australian compilation "30 All Time Greatest Hits". The introduction was dubbed from disc and placed on the CD as track 30 with the stereo mix of "Maroc 7" placed as track 31.
